Hi! I’m Francesca Zappia.
I’m the award-winning author of Young Adult books including Eliza and Her Monsters, Katzenjammer, and the latest, Greymist Fair. I have a Computer Science/Math degree and an MBA from the University of Indianapolis, and I currently live in Indiana.
I spend my free time baking, playing video games, and watching terrible movies.
Check out the links up above to learn more about me and my books. If you’re looking for media and publicity information, you can check my Media Kit.
I’ve always loved telling stories.
I write, I draw, I DM for a D&D group. I watch TV and movies (especially the terrible ones) and read a lot of books. I love stories and the art of storytelling and annoying people with how critically I want to analyze that thing we just read/watch/played.
When I write, I’m writing something that I’d want to read. That usually means it’s going to be weird/campy/oddly specific. I don’t stick to one genre, though I doubt I’ll ever write a historical novel. It’s just not my thing. (<— that’s my way of tricking myself into writin

2024 Young Adult Shortlist: Katzenjammer
A young adult horror novel about Cat, a girl trapped in her high school with her classmates as they and the school transform in terrifying ways. When someone starts killing them off, Cat has to regain her memories and unravel the mystery of what trapped them there in the first place, before everyone ends up dead.
2017 Emerging Winner: Made You Up
Reality, it turns out, is often not what you perceive it to be—sometimes, there really is someone out to get you. Made You Up tells the story of Alex, a high school senior unable to tell the difference between real life and delusion.
