Werdegang
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]William Stenger besuchte die öffentlichen Schulen seiner Heimat und danach bis 1858 das Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster. Nach einem anschließenden Jurastudium und seiner 1860 erfolgten Zulassung als Rechtsanwalt begann er in Chambersburg in diesem Beruf zu arbeiten. Außerdem wurde er Geschäftsführer der Zeitung Philadelphia Record. Zwischen 1862 und 1871 war er Bezirksstaatsanwalt im Franklin County.
Politisch schloss sich Stenger der Demokratischen Partei an. Bei den Kongresswahlen des Jahres 1874 wurde er im 18. by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine Newport businessman Bill Stenger, the former president of Jay Peak resort, was released from prison today, according to a Facebook post by his son Andrew. The post from Wednesday morning reads: "Just under 7 years ago a long, complicated journey started for my father and our family. I’m extremely grateful to report the journey is finally over. Next stop- large fries at Mc’Ds drive through. Bringing the big man home today." The post shows father and son, but when the photo was taken was not clarified nor was the time of release.
Stenger began an 18-month federal prison sentence at Fort Devens, MA, on June 7.
Stenger confirmed to VermontBiz on Friday that he was back home.

William Shearer Stenger (February 13, 1840 – March 29, 1918) was an American Democratic Partypolitician.
Formative years
Born in Fort Loudon, Franklin County, Pennsylvania on February 13, 1840, William S. Stenger graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A member of the Class of 1858, he was also a charter member of the Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity.
Career
Following his graduation, Stenger studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1860. He then began practice in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where he also served as executive director of the Philadelphia Record and, from 1862 to 1871, as district attorney of Franklin County.
Stenger was as an elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, but was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1878. He subsequently served as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1883 to 1887.
