Robert Lawrence Stine (; born October 8, 1943) is an American novelist. He is the writer of Goosebumps, a horror fiction novel series which has sold over 400 million copies globally in 35 languages, becoming the second-best-selling book series in history.[1] The series spawned a media franchise including two televisionseries, a video game series, a comic series, and two feature films. Stine has been referred to as the "Stephen King of children's literature".[2]
Stine wrote the teenage horror fiction series Fear Street, which has sold over 80 million copies and has been adapted into a trilogy of films.[3] His other horror fiction novel series include Rotten School, Mostly Ghostly,Nightmare Hour, and The Nightmare Room. He has also written dozens of humor books for children, under the alias Jovial Bob Stine.

Top-selling children's book author R.L. Stine started out writing jokes and funny stories. He moved to New York City in the mid-1960s, after graduating from The Ohio State University. In 1986, Stine published Blind Date, his first horror novel for young adults. He launched his popular Fear Street book series three years later. Beginning in 1992, Stine found international acclaim writing the Goosebumps series, which spurred the creation of additional series and nearly 200 books.

R.L. Stine was born Robert Lawrence Stine in Columbus, Ohio, on October 8, 1943. Stine began writing stories at the age of 9, using an old typewriter that he found. He initially made up jokes and humorous stories, not the spine-tingling tales that later made him famous.
Stine's father worked as a shipping clerk in a warehouse, and his mother stayed home to look after young Robert and his two siblings. Stine has described himself as "a very fearful child," and said that his mother gave him one of his first serious frights by reading Robert Lawrence Stine was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1943. Stine worked at Scholastic, where he edited and wrote for a humor magazine called Bananas. Stine also wrote for Nickelodeon’s television show, Eureeka’s Castle. R.L.
