Former Syracuse football safety Shamarko Thomas signs with Indianapolis Colts
Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse football safety Shamarko Thomas signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, the team announced.
Thomas, heading into his sixth professional season, is coming off a one-year stint with the Buffalo Bills in which he served as a core special teams player.
The 5-foot-9, 205-pound Virginia native has appeared in 60 career games and totaled 24 tackles, including one for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Thomas played his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the franchise selected him in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
At Syracuse, Thomas started 43 games over four seasons and racked up 263 career tackles -- sixth-most among defensive backs in program history -- two interceptions and four sacks. He was named first-team All-Big East after his senior season.

Shamarko Lanell Thomas (born February 23, 1991) is an American former professional footballsafety. He played college football at Syracuse, and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Thomas was also a member of the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, New York Guardians, DC Defenders, and the Ottawa Redblacks.
Early life
Thomas was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, and he played for the Ocean Lakes Dolphins high school football team. He was named 2008 first-team all-state, all-region and All-Tidewater, and was a two-time first-team all-district selection. He set school records in career tackles, interceptions and defensive touchdowns. In 2008, he recorded a team-high 102 tackles, six interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and one blocked field goal as a team captain, leading the squad to a 12–1 record, while earning 2008 team defensive MVP honors.
