Meet Cariad Lloyd, the woman who put the joy in grief

Laughing at life’s saddest moments can be hugely therapeutic, says comedian Cariad Lloyd, whose conversations on bereavement with fellow comics became a taboo-breaking podcast

In February 1998 my dad turned yellow. A turmeric hue engulfed him. He was initially diagnosed with liver cancer then, after some more scouting, they announced that it was the mostly incurable and hope-stealing pancreatic cancer. By April, he was dead. I’ve been on telly in shows such as Alan Partridge, Murder in Successville and Peep Show not being me. I’ve also been onHave I Got News For You, Would I Lie To Youand Qi being me. I like doing both.

I regularly pretend to be a Regency lady with my improv show, Austentatious: An Improvised Jane Austen Novel. We wear bonnets and breeches and make up a comedy play in the style of Jane Austen. We’ve had five sell-out Edinburgh Festivals and are currently performing weekly in London’s West End.

I am the creator and host of the award winning podcast, Griefcast. It won Best Entertainment, Best Interview and Podcast of the Year at The British Podcast Awards 2018 and Best Podcast at the ARIA’s too. It’s been featured in The Times, The Independent, You Magazine, Radio Times, The Telegraph and The Guardian. You can follow on t
