A survey of works celebrating one of Los Angeles’ most groundbreaking artists, Victor Estrada: Purple Mexican presents a selection of more than 40 intimately scaled drawings from the artist’s oeuvre, plus a selection of large paintings created during the past decade, and a major recent sculpture.
In a career spanning more than 30 years, Victor Estrada has produced paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations that deftly navigate the realms of pop and conceptual art. A consummate Angelino, his work is informed by the unique cultural landscape of the sprawling metropolis and the Southwest—1980s Los Angeles and South Bay punk rock; Chicano art, music and politics; the art collectives ASCO and Los Four; and the enduring socio-political ramifications surrounding the US/Mexico border. Coach Victor Estrada returns for his 3rd season as a cross country/track & field assistant coach. Before arriving at Mt. SAC, Estrada served as an assistant coach at Fullerton College for one year. Prior to Fullerton College, Estrada was a volunteer assistant coach for five seasons at his alma mater, Cal State Fullerton.
A native of Mexico, Estrada was born into a family of cycling enthusiasts, where sports and going for a bike ride were always part of the daily ritual; however, after several falls, Estrada decided to take up running. In high school, he competed in five different sports (soccer, cross country, track and field, kick boxing and cycling), but focused on cross country and track & field in college.
Estrada received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. Estrada possesses USATF Level-1 Certification and is currently training for his first triathlon.

Victor Estrada (born 1956, Burbank, California, United States) is an American artist living and working in Los Angeles.[1]
Education
Estrada received his MFA, in 1988, as well as his BFA, in 1986, from Pasadena's Art Center College of Design. He also attended Texas Tech University, and the University of Texas at El Paso.[2]
Exhibitions
Estrada was included in the 1992 exhibition Helter Skelter: L.A. Art in the 1990s at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles's Temporary Contemporary location, where his sculpture Baby/Baby, a 30-foot-long urethane-foam sculpture of reclining figures conjoined by an enormous phallus, caught critics' attention.[3] His work was mentioned in nearly every review of the controversial exhibition,[4] with the Los Angeles Times calling it "a powerful, monumentally theatrical sculpture",[
