Jeff Apter has adopted an incisive and detailed, but accessible style which suits his topic – an Australian boy from Caboolture who wanted to succeed in Nashville. In particular, Apter has given the reader so much information about why the various people, as well as Keith Urban, might have acted as they have, but does not pass judgement. This is a style that enhances the biography in which Urban’s attempts at rehabilitation, his behaviour toward managers, bands, other performers, his marriage and attitudes towards expressing himself, are covered. There are plenty of clues to dwell upon as to why an attitude, behaviour or event might have occurred – but there is no overt or covert opinion expressed by this most delicate of biographers. Keith Urban (b. 1967) and his parents moved to Queensland from New Zealand when he was a small boy. Well before he reached his teens he was singing and playing guitar in public, appearing on Reg Lindsay's Country Hour and other television programs and playing regularly on stage at the Northern Suburbs Country Music Club near Caboolture. In 1990 he won the Toyota Starmaker Award, and he released his first, self-titled, album in 1991. He moved to the USA the following year, and having broken a cocaine addiction acquired while working in Nashville, issued his first solo American album in 1999. It brought him the first of his plethora of Top Ten hits and awards, which now comprise Grammys, Country Music Association Awards, Golden Guitars, ARIAs and more.     Keith Urban is 52-years-old and was born in Whangarei, New Zealand on October 26, 1967.

    After taking guitar lessons as a child, Keith was a contestant on Australian TV talent show New Faces and made inroads on the Australian country music scene, playing on various local TV shows before being signed by EMI and releasing his self-titled first album in 1990.

    After moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1992, Keith worked with various country artists for the next decade including Toby Keith and Paul Jefferson before winning the Top New Male Vocalist Award at the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards.

    Keith has garnered worldwide success, has been a judge on American Idol and is only the second singer in country music history to have nine albums go platinum and multi-platinum.
